What is Pilates and why would I want to do it?

Pilates is a form of exercise that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. It is a low-impact, full-body workout that emphasizes core strength, flexibility, and alignment.

The Pilates method focuses on developing a strong and stable core by working the deep muscles of the abdomen, pelvis, and back. The exercises are performed in a slow and controlled manner, with a focus on proper alignment and breathing. Pilates also incorporates stretching and resistance exercises, using equipment such as the reformer, Cadillac, and chair, to increase overall body strength and flexibility.

There are many potential benefits to practicing Pilates, including:

  1. Improved core strength and stability

  2. Increased flexibility and range of motion

  3. Improved posture and alignment

  4. Reduced risk of injury

  5. Reduced stress and tension in the body

  6. Improved balance and coordination

  7. Increased body awareness and mindfulness

  8. Enhanced athletic performance

Pilates can be practiced by people of all ages and fitness levels, and it is often recommended as a form of rehabilitation for people recovering from injuries or surgery. It is also a popular form of exercise for dancers, athletes, and people seeking a low-impact workout that is gentle on the joints.

Pilates can be practiced in a group setting or in one-on-one sessions with a certified instructor. It can also be done at home with the use of a mat and some basic equipment. Although understanding that performing these techniques shouldn't be done with any old instructor, check out instructors and see how they are.

I have heard horror story after horror story about how their are Pilates instructors that don't really know what they are doing and they don't know how to focus on the using the techniques for healing rather they either don't care and are their merely to make a buck ( very bad instructor stance ) or are not trained enough so as to understand the movements of the human body and spot signs of muscular imbalance or muscular weakness. So a good instructor is what you want to find. One that has the skill and professionalism to focus on you and your class as well as they have a plethora of knowledge to support your well being even after the class.

Like with anything we cannot speak in reference to all instructors but if you desire to get into an awesome class or partake in a regular therapy session through the use of Pilates, feel free to reach out to us and we can see what is the best way to help you attain your goals.
